The code which opens the --combined, --differ etc report files (or
stdout for "-") and closes them afterwards was duplicated between the
check command and the sync logger flags. This moves it into
operations.OpenReportFiles which both now use. It also closes any
files already opened if a later one fails to open.
The sync report flags (--combined, --missing-on-src, --missing-on-dst,
--match, --differ, --error and --dest-after) were only wired up in the
CLI commands so there was no way to get these reports over the rc or
from librclone.
This adds boolean parameters of the same names as operations/check
(combined, missingOnSrc, missingOnDst, match, differ, error and
destAfter) to sync/sync, sync/copy and sync/move. Each requested
report is returned as an array of strings in the output, just as
operations/check does. All default to off so existing callers see no
change in the output.
To share the code between the CLI and the rc the report writer helper
from operations/check is exported as operations.RcReportWriter, the
lsf defaults for --dest-after are moved into
operations.NewSyncLoggerOpt and the listing setup and --no-traverse
warnings from operationsflags.ConfigureLoggers into LoggerOpt.Init.
This enables the logger flags (`--combined`, `--missing-on-src`
etc.) for the `rclone copy` and `move` commands (as well as their
`copyto` and `moveto` variants) akin to `rclone sync`. Warnings for
unsupported/wonky flag combinations are also printed, e.g. when the
destination is not traversed but `--dest-after` is specified.
- fs/operations: add reusable methods for operation logging
- cmd/sync: use reusable methods for implementing logging in sync command
- cmd: implement logging for copy/copyto/move/moveto commands
- fs/operations/operationsflags: warn about logs in conjunction with --no-traverse
- cmd: add logger docs to copy and move commands
Fixes#8115
Allows rclone sync to accept the same output file flags as rclone check,
for the purpose of writing results to a file.
A new --dest-after option is also supported, which writes a list file using
the same ListFormat flags as lsf (including customizable options for hash,
modtime, etc.) Conceptually it is similar to rsync's --itemize-changes, but
not identical -- it should output an accurate list of what will be on the
destination after the sync.
Note that it has a few limitations, and certain scenarios
are not currently supported:
--max-duration / CutoffModeHard
--compare-dest / --copy-dest (because equal() is called multiple times for the
same file)
server-side moves of an entire dir at once (because we never get the individual
file objects in the dir)
High-level retries, because there would be dupes
Possibly some error scenarios that didn't come up on the tests
Note also that each file is logged during the sync, as opposed to after, so it
is most useful as a predictor of what SHOULD happen to each file
(which may or may not match what actually DID.)
Only rclone sync is currently supported -- support for copy and move may be
added in the future.
Logger instruments the Sync routine with a status report for each file pair,
making it possible to output a list of the synced files, along with their
attributes and sigil categorization (match/differ/missing/etc.)
It is very customizable by passing in a custom LoggerFn, options, and
io.Writers to be written to. Possible uses include:
- allow sync to write path lists to a file, in the same format as rclone check
- allow sync to output a --dest-after file using the same format flags as lsf
- receive results as JSON when calling sync from an internal function
- predict the post-sync state of the destination
For usage examples, see bisync.WriteResults() or sync.SyncLoggerFn()
